Facet Joint Pain

Facet joints are small stabilizing joints located behind and between the vertebrae. Facet joints are often the source of back or neck pain. This pain can radiate into the arms or legs.

SYMPTOMS

Facet joint pain is typically experienced as tenderness over the affected joints. The joints may be painful to move, especially when bending backwards.

TREATMENT

Facet joint pain often responds well to pain and anti-inflammatory medications, as well as physical therapy.

SURGERY

In some cases, facet joint blocks may be performed to confirm the diagnosis, and radiofrequency denervations may provide more long-term relief.

Your pain specialist can advise on and perform these blocks.
