Spine Surgery: Before and After & Pain Management Masterclass

Spine Surgery: Before and After – Aligning Expectations and Maximising Recovery for Your Patients

Dr Neil Cochrane, Neurosurgeon & Spinal Surgeon

This presentation will summarise contemporary spinal surgical treatment options, the likely outcomes and the realistic treatment limitations. This discussion aims to promote a better understanding of the pre-surgery pathway, the patient’s needs post-op, and to help the GP guide their patient towards their best possible outcome.

Learning outcomes:
1. Recognise the current surgical options available to treat the most common spinal pathologies, who to refer, and when
2. Identify and manage the barriers to a maximal response and a prompt recovery from surgery
3. Manage the unsatisfactory outcomes and have strategies for the ‘failed back’
