Post-Traumatic Tremor

Post-traumatic tremor can affect people who have sustained a serious brain injury or stroke. This tremor usually affects one side of the body, and can be particularly disabling. Some patients with post-traumatic tremor respond favourably to medications, but many do not.

DEEP BRAIN STIMULATION FOR POST-TRAUMATIC TREMOR

We have performed deep brain stimulation (DBS) on a number of patients with post-traumatic tremor, and most have obtained a very good benefit. Some have experienced an almost complete reduction of the tremor.

Based on experience, our preferred target in the brain for DBS for post-traumatic tremor is the posterior subthalamic area (PSA).
