Dr McCallum studied medicine at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.

Dr McCallum completed his anaesthetic training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Following this he completed a Fellowship from the Faculty of Pain Medicine at The Professor Tess Cramond Multidisciplinary Pain Centre where he gained more experience in interventional chronic pain procedures.

Since then, Dr McCallum has worked in the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Palliative Care Department and the Princess Alexandra Hospital’s Department of Persistent Pain. He has travelled extensively nationally and internationally to learn new interventional pain relieving techniques.

Dr McCallum has a keen interest in teaching medical students and junior doctors a safe and effective approach to acute and chronic pain management.

Dr McCallum’s main areas of expertise are helping patients with chronic pain optimise the benefit from their medications. He thoroughly assesses the patients to give a tailored effective plan to help the patient increase their level of function and be less disabled. He strongly believes in working closely with the patients and their General Practitioners to ensure the needs of people with complex pain problems are met.

Dr McCallum is actively involved with spinal cord stimulator research so he can provide the most up to date care for his patients.

Dr McCallum’s interests are:

  • Interventional Techniques for Spinal Pain and headaches
  • Pharmacological Management of Neuropathic Pain
  • Multidisciplinary pain rehabilitation programme management
  • Safe and effective analgesic prescribing, especially of opioids
  • Taking his daughters to and from ballet lessons

Dr McCallum consults widely across Victoria, including at: Kew, Box Hill, Mulgrave, Werribee, Sunshine and Bendigo.
